Validation as a future-proof quality check
Checking that your webpage “looks fine” in several popular browsers may be a reasonable insurance that the page will work today. However, a poorly designed web site that doesn’t validate rarely performs well in the myriad of browsers available. Your site may look OK on one platform (e.g. IE7 on Windows), but may fall short on a Mac or under Linux, instantly excluding ten percent or more of your potential market.
Non validating websites may also break in the future, as & when web browsers are updated, suddenly rendering your site unviewable by most people.
Validation is one of the simplest ways to check whether a page is built in accordance with Web standards.
Though a fully validating website is not guaranteed to be perfect, a non validating website is a sign that your previous web designer created your site in a hurry.
Validation eases maintenance
Ease of maintenance is key when multiple people are updating your website or if you are updating the content in house and the site template was built externally.
The frustration caused by poorly laid out templates is completely avoidable with well a designed fully validating site.
An accessible website is law
A validating website is one step towards and accessible website. Your website should be accessible to everyone. This makes good business sense and it’s the law.
Validation is a sign of professionalism
As of today, there is little or no certification for Web professionals. How do you know your site has been built by a professional with your business in mind? How do you know your site won’t develop issues in the near future? Validation is the answer.
